Rae Mission Team 2009 Departs Friday Morning July 24

Mission Team Sharing

Steven Duong: This is my 2nd year on the mission's trip. Last year, we were able to make new friendships with some people, and I even got to talk to someone from Rae after the mission's trip through Bebo. This year, I'm not sure what to expect. I'm actually not too sure what to write about for this bio. We talked about doing a carnival of some sort to share with kids the good news. Also, we were thinking of bringing the programs to the children rather than bringing the children to us this year. Things are probably going to be very different. I guess I'll just say that I hope we will be willing to do what God calls us to do.

Nathan Chan: I am a returning member of the Rae-Edzo Mission team. Three years ago, our church agreed on a partnership with the Church Behchoko. I, along with the team, set out on an adventure filled with uncertainties, casualties, and spiritual warfare. By Casualties, I mean Uncle Sam, who was very much a treasured member of our team. As I said, the team set out, backed only by our faith in God, that he would speak and act through us to reach the people of Rae. The first trip, despite the intense hard work, set a firm foundation for the years to come, and this showed true in the second year’s trip, to which I also attended. Why did I (in spite of the hard work) decide to go again? It’s because I, along with most (if not all) of the first team, fell in love with Rae and her people. We fell in love with the culture, the landscape, and of course, the Sheds. We made friends that would prove to transcend the communication and time gaps between our trips. And during the trip, we forged closer relationships, furthered our connection with God, and most of all, had a blast.

So yea, I missed last year, which eventually came back to bite me in the face. (God DOES have a sense of humour) I must say, it’s about time that I return to the one lovable place in Canada.

Melissa Duong: This will be my 3rd year going to Behchoko and I'm very excited to go. Every year when we return we hear and see how the Holy Spirit moves and grows up there. An example is hearing when some of the youth have comed to Christ like Sherry, Rambo and Andrew and then hearing of them going to YWAM and sharing the gospel in the Phillipines. Pray for the mission team to be united and to surrender ourselves wholeheartedly to whatever God may call us to do up in Behchoko. Pray for the community of Behchoko to experience God's truth and for continual encouragement of the Shed family.

Cristy Cheng-Lam: This is the first time I've joined a mission trip. Since ECBC started to send the mission team to help spread the Gospel in Rae few years ago, I said to myself, if I have the time, I will go. This year I do not have a full time job so I can go. I think this will be a very special experience to reach people that are very different from us, to share the Gospel to the people there; to give them hope that their life can have a chance to change through Christ. I am looking forward to: meet the people in Rae, working united with the other members of the mission team, and seeing the beautiful environment.

Leung Family (Agnes, Brendan, Chester, Daniel) - This is ABCD Leung. We look forward with anticipation to this year's trip to Rae. ABD will be returning the 1st time and it will Chester's third time. Pastor Shed's family and the people we got to know have become almost like family. We know God is at work in Rae, they have not been forgotten.

This year, we are armed with some knowledge of previous trip(s), balloon twisting skills and a new team. We hope to be a blessing to some. We are faced with difficulties but are not discouraged. Eg. in June we found out that the week long overnight camp in High Level will take place the same week we will be in Bechoko and they expect 70 school age kids to be attending the camp. This just shifts our focus to other groups such as preschoolers, teenagers and adults.

We have learnt to be spontaneous and obedience to God's guidance, be flexible and open. We try to prepare ourselves as much as possible but will never know till we get there that day how things will pan out. We trust that God will help us through.

We ask for prayers that leaders and those in authority will see God's light and be changed. We ask for God's protection for safety on the roads and when we are there. We ask that the group will be focused and willing to serve each other to work as a team. We pray that we may be an encouragement to Christians there to continue to be disciples of Christ. Thank you for your support.

Pastor Dennis Milne: I’m looking forward to going on this mission trip because I would like to work with Native Canadians and I think it would be an interesting learning experience for myself too.

Dung Ha: I am a new Christian. I have been going to church for 2 years now. I have never been to any mission trip before. At first, I didn’t plan on going. Work didn’t have enough workers. Getting vacation is hard. Then all of a sudden, work got more workers. I can take vacation and go to the mission trip. God have everything planned. I hear from the people from the previous mission trip that its a great experience to go and teach other people about God’s word. I pray God that I will gain great experience from this trip. I pray God will give me strength and wisdom to handle every task during the mission trip. God bless everyone.

Madeline Milne: This is my first time going on a mission i am very excited to see a part of the country i have never seen before and to get to know a different culture. I think the people of rae will be similar to the people of edmonton but they might eat different foods and dress differently. During training i learned mostly about the culture. I am worried about the weather being to hot and I am worried about not being able to meet people easily. By going on the mission trip I will be sacrificing part of my summer. I would like the church to pray for me to have patientence and to be open to new people and a new culture.

Austen Chan: I want go on the mission trip because I want to help people learn to know about God. I’ve faced some aspects of spiritual warfare at school in that there are lots of different religions at my school. I would tie this into the mission trip as there are still lots of people who are not Christian who still need to be reached. Maybe it will help to make the entire town of Rae have more Christians than non-Christians.

Peter Yang: This is my first mission trip and I am looking forward to all the work we will be doing there and the people we will meet and make happy. I can’t really expect a certain thing as I’ve never been up in Rae. Pray that I have enough strength to be friendly to the people and bring joy to them. If we are digging trenches for toilets, it’s fine as we are able bodies and we are men so we should do manly work.

Grace Law: This mission trip will be my 4th time in Rae and I am looking forward to all the sunrises and sunsets! I'm also excited about making art with the kids and swinging a hammer at broken objects to fix things up. Please pray that I will be alert and obedient to all the opportunities God brings up during our days in the north. I wish that God's love will be apparent through me as I share my passion for the arts. Thanks to everyone at ECBC who is supporting this team through prayer and fundraising. I am honored for this opportunity and will do my best to represent our church and our Lord.

Pastor Peter Ng: I am getting old, so I have problems with sleeping on hard wood floors. So pray for me that I can sleep well. Thank God that we met the restaurant owners up in Rae so we will see them over there. He already promised that he will meet us when he got back from vacation so we can have a Bible study with this family. Hopefully as well we will be able to go into Yellowknife and minister to another Chinese restaurant family up there. As well, pray that we will be able to minister to two specific people in Rae by the name of Joyce and Maurice.
