Milnes Report on Their Experience
Pastor Dennis Milne - The mission trip was a great experience and a lot of fun. It was the first mission trip that I have gone myself although I have received teams and sent teams as a pastor. The trip was worth the effort as it stretched me and challenged me to move outside my comfort zone. I have never been anywhere where water was in such short supply. The pastor and his family were so giving and understanding of the people in Rae, a great example for all of us on the mission team. The last Sunday the pastors van caught fire and burned to the ground but he simple trusted that God was in control and would provide for his family. I enjoyed the opportunity to preach in Rae and Fort Providence. I also enjoyed leading the Adult Bible study each night during the week. Helping with VBS and the boys’ night out was fun and the kids were great.
During the week I got to know a couple of men in the community. One of the men even asked if I would come back in the winter to go hunting, what an amazing opportunity that would be. One of the men I got to know really well and had a great visit with came forward during one of the service for prayer and I believe he wants to grow deeper in his faith.
There were many highlights for me this week but the main one would be that I got to know so many different people from the north and I got to know some of the people from ECBC better. This is the farthest north I have been and the first time to be on the Canadian Shield, the scenery was amazing I am so glad I went on the mission trip. I pray that if God gives me this opportunity again that I will once again go with a team up to Rae. Thank you church for your support and for praying for us well we went up north for such a worthy mission trip.
Madeline Milne - This was my first mission trip and i really enjoyed helping out the community of Rae. I decided to go to Rae to learn about a new culture, see what life is like in Rae, and to spread the gospel with people of all ages. Some of the ministries I helped out with in Rae were a week of vaction bible school, art classes, cooking classes, bible studies, girls outreach nights, and visitations. The most memorable moment in Rae was definitely the girls out reach night because i got to talk to some teenage girls about what their lives are like in Rae. I really enjoyed those nights because the girls had fun and got to learn about some women of the bible. The people in Rae live very different life styles but all in all we aren't much different. I enjoyed working with the younger kids for vaction bible school because I like to help children learn about the bible and the amazing stories it contains. I think God has used me to connect with the girls just going into junior high by telling them some of my experiences while going through junior high. I think God has used this experience to help me grow by showing me that I have it good living in Edmonton. I can really see God using Edmonton Chinese Baptist Church's mission team to work with Rae by helping them with community projects and outreaching to the community by inviting the people to their church. I hope to go either back to Rae or on another mission trip in the future!
