Peter in Rae
Peter Yang’s Reflection on Rae
Since it is my first Mission Trip to Rae, I had no idea what to expect. Rae is a wonderful northern community, with friendly and kind people. God has called us away from home to follow in Christ’s example to share God’s love and promise with the people of Rae.
We planned a carnival on Sunday as a kind of advertisement for the ministries we prepared for the week. Through God’s blessings, the turn-out was great. Some of the team members crafted balloon sculptures and others helped with kids games. We had the opportunity to tell them about the various ministries we had set up, which included the children’s camp, adult Bible study, sports night, girls/guys night, and cooking class.
We saw God’s blessings everyday. The children’s camp was a huge success with at least 30 kids everyday. Some of us helped out with community projects - this year installing windows in the Sunday school house and roofing a storage shack. However, our mission trip is more than the physical things and events we did. Pastor Ng’s devotions remind us that our trip to Rae is to spread the love of Jesus Christ for all of God’s people. Therefore, whatever we do, we do it prayerfully with the strength of God by our side.
During a Bible study session, a brother from Rae shared that our work is making an impact in the community. The people of the community are starting to accept us. It was encouraging that this trip is more than simply helping with the Tlicho church; it is about answering God’s calling.
