VBS Outback Bible Study
Chooo Chooo ! ! !
2009 VBS Take A Journey South
The past two weeks have been a tough and crusading journey, where rotational daytime activities and 3-hour field trips have caused volunteers overwhelming stress and tears of joy. In the morning, children crisscrossed through the Australian outback and visited the Music Opera House, led by Dorothy Fung, where they learned five whole songs with actions. They continued through to Missions Harbour where Bernadette Chan, Hetta Chau, Lincoln Ho and Patrick Fung took them through the Amazon, the ranch and taught about missionaries who shared the truth about Jesus. They visited Hanna Ng or Nathan Chan in the Bible Study Outback and learned about Peter’s devotion to his Saviour and the wonderful miracles Jesus performed. The children also had the chance to explore their creativity at Arts Crossing with the help of Grace Law, Johanna Ng, Oriana Seto and Lily Ma, making rainmakers, didgeridoo, mural paintings, fish murals and miniature clay sculptures. This year, we also introduced a new class: Drama Hideaway. Here, the children joined Joyce Chan and Shaina Foo taught the kids to act out different skits about the Gospel. Some classes were even able to write their own skits, which will be submitted into the Gospel Without Words Film Festival. Finally, they travelled to Recreation Rock, where Ivan Ho, Davidson Yu, Austen Chan and Ryan Chao led them in a variety of fun games.
G’Day Café provided snacks and lunch for over 100 individuals giving nourishment, full stomachs and jello. This team was lead by Alice Wong with helpers, Josephine Fung, Ann Tat, Yuet Mui Lee, Thanh Kwok, Natalie Leung, Mrs. Wu and Mrs. Tham.
In the afternoon, the children visited several different places, such as Fort Edmonton Park, the Valley Zoo, Wabamun Lake, City Hall, the Legislature, Laser Tag, McLeod Creek Farm and John Janzen Nature centre. Through these fieldtrips, they were able to learn more about our history and the beauty of God’s creation.
To celebrate the end of Boomerang Express, there was a Musical Presentation and Art Show on Saturday, August 22 at 2:00pm at Edmonton Chinese Baptist Church. The children be performed the five songs they learnt during the week and presented their skits from Drama class. In addition, the art that they created during VBS were on display afterwards where snacks and fellowship took place.
