Fellowship translates the Greek term koinonia, which means "a communion of persons on equal terms, or a sharing of experience and possession." (Harper's Bible Dictionary). The Oxford English Dictionary defines fellowship as either: a) friendliness and companionship based on shared interests; or b) a group of people meeting to pursue a shared interest or aim. All of these terms help to define and describe our English fellowships at ECBC. The broad purposes of fellowship are to build relationships, to grow in our knowledge and faith, and to share life together. Fellowship is a safe, fun environment for people to explore the Christian faith and the Church community. We desire our fellowships to be open and valuable to all who come, regardless of background.
Hope Fellowship (junior high and high school) meets together every Friday evening from 7:30-9:30PM. It is led by Pastor Tawa, Joyce Chan, and Stephen and Carla Brown.
Faith Fellowship includes post-secondary students at various institutions, as well as a handful of working young adults. Faith Fellowships meets every Friday from 7:30-9:30PM at church. Faith Fellowship leaders for 2008 are Matt Wong, Steven Duong, Mason Lin, Pastor Tawa Anderson, and Michael Brown.
The Career Group is a diverse group of young adults, married couples, and families from the English congregation. The Career Group meets twice a month for Bible study and a potluck supper.
In September 2005, we launched several new small groups. There are groups meeting at different times, in different places, studying different materials, for different purposes. For more information about our small group ministries, please contact Pastor Tawa (tawa.anderson@ecbchurch.org).
Sports Night, which in the past has been a summers-only activity, will continue throughout the year as a permanent fixture. From September - April, we will meet every second Tuesday to play floor hockey at church from 7-9PM. From May - August, we meet every week to play a variety of sports - from basketball to baseball, European football to American football, and even beach volleyball. Check the Forums page for up-to-date info, or contact Mason Lin (mlin@ualberta.ca, 474-8543).
