The following baptismal testimony is translated from Chinese by Agnes Leung.
Edward Chan shares his testimony.
From kindergarten to high school, I have had the opportunity to learn about Christianity. Since I prayed habitually since I was small, whenever I encounter difficulties, I would pray. In my heart, I believe there is a Savior, but I only started finding out more in high school. During high school, a few basketball players that were more senior than me were all Christians, they shared with me their testimonies and I became touched by their love. I started to try out attending Sunday worship service.
My church life was unstable, it didn’t last long. But God was in my heart. When I was in Form 5 (i.e. Grade 11), I discovered that my dad had an affair. At that time, my mom didn’t know and I didn’t know how to handle it. In the end, I saw how the family was degenerated. When I saw mom’s suffering, I felt really terrible. I prayed to God telling Him I don’t know what to do. In the end, He gave me a chance to study abroad and so I came to Edmonton alone.
Edward is baptised by Rev. Ng.
After coming to Canada for about half a year, one of my friends ask if I want to attend fellowship. Because I have always been receptive to God, I agreed. At that time, I felt that life was meaningless and out of control, there are a lot of things that I cannot solve. I truly believe that there is one that is sovereign, so I hope that my Savior would strengthen me to adopt my new role at home.
God really gave me strength to face my parents and to support them. It’s because of Christ’s acceptance that I can face my family with acceptance. Since I felt the faithfulness of God, I accepted Christ.
After accepting Jesus as my Lord, under God’s direction, I changed. My emotion stabilized and became more joyful. My mom also became a Christian this summer. When I see how God bless and guide us, I cannot help but be in awe and surrender to Him. Thanks be to God!
