The following baptismal testimony is translated from Chinese by Agnes Leung.
Yin Fun Chan shares her testimony.
Before I became a Christian, I felt that it doesn’t matter what I believe. My mom passed away when I was young. When I was 7 years old I was led by my aunt to worship Goon Yum. I did that for 7 years but did not receive any protection. I only saw the pain and sufferings it brought. I saw that my aunt even though she worshipped this idol for so many years, she did not receive any grace. She was persecuted and got called “bad person” (under the Mao Zedong’s era). She suffered lots of hardship and died in her sufferings. Based on this, I do not believe in any idol.
At that time, I do not know Jesus. Then in Hong Kong I got to know a Christian lady. She would often share the gospel with me. I told her that I used to worship idols. She told me that she used to too. But she now believes in Jesus, and believe in no other gods. She is God’s child, by God’s grace received good health and a joyful life.
Yin Fun is baptised by Rev. Ng.
Later, I went to church with her and joined the activities. She prayed a lot for me, and I found that my life was changed. I told her I want to go to Canada to visit my daughter. She told me she would pray for me. She also told me to relax because God will listen to His child’s prayer, blessing them. I was very peaceful, and not scared. I went to Canada safely and visited my daughter for 20 days. After that I went back to Hong Kong. I told this sister, “I want to immigrate to Canada.” This sister said, “I will pray for you knowing that Jehovah God will protect you, successfully arranging for your immigration, so you can be with your daughter.” Consequently, after 10 months, my application was approved. It was during the year of SARS, but I have God with me, protecting me, giving me good health, arriving safely at my daughter’s side. After arriving in Canada, God helped me with finding a job and a residence. Rev. Mak and many brothers and sisters helped arrange for everything. Thank God for his deep love and grace.
But why have I not been baptized for so long? It is because of work. I had to work on Sundays. In July 2007, my daughter’s wedding was wonderfully arranged by the brothers and sisters of the church, all the problems were solved. I felt God’s greatness and grace.
Later, Edward Luk and his wife came to visit me at home to share the gospel. They brought God’s words to my ears, they told me the benefits of believing. I attend Seniors’ Sunday School, Mr. Fung explains the Bible very clearly, so I can understand that God loves the world. All of the above is my testimony. Thank God for His grace.
