The following baptismal testimony is translated from Chinese by Agnes Leung.
Angela Chan shares her testimony.
I come from a family with no religion. In 1994, I immigrated to Edmonton from Hong Kong. On one occasion I got to know sister Mrs. Alice Wong. She invited me to a small group of the church. When I first attend, I did not know what to say, I did not feel involved, I did not how to flip the Bible; I did not know how to sing hymns. But strangely enough I would attend small group activity whenever I have time.
2003, my mother’s cancer relapsed, so I went back to Hong Kong. I went with her to visit a specialist. After her diagnosis, she told us, even though healing patients was her job, there would be times when she would not know what to do. But she was willing to pray for my mother. We agreed right away and we prayed at the clinic. It is very rare to encounter this type of physician: she only billed us $200(HK) ($30Cdn). She didn’t seem to be working for money: she willingly used her time and energy to help us. Through her caring attitude, I experienced Christians’ “love one another, serve one another” spirit, helping me know Christ, experiencing His love.
2004, my mom passed away, two years after that, my youngest sister also died of cancer. Through their death, I experienced the pain of losing loved ones, and started to ponder about the meaning of life.
Angela is baptised by Rev. Ng.
Summer 2006, I joined a joint small group function. The Holy Spirit touched me; I thought about the pain that Jesus endured when He was nailed on the cross. His purpose is to save the world, His love is unconditional. I only had to confess my sin and believe in Him to receive eternal life, so I decided to follow Jesus.
After I accepted Jesus, I changed a lot. I began to like to read the Bible and Christian literature. I started to worship on Sunday, attend Sunday School, meditate on God’s words, sensing a deep sense of peace and joy. Ephesians 4:26 became my favorite verse: “Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry”. If I argue, I will pray to confess, and pray for the other person. I would also pray about the difficulties at work trusting Him. I often share my testimony with friends.
I want to thank Rev. Ng and many brothers and sisters for their encouragement. Through their explanation of the Bible, my heart was opened, so I could become God’s child.
