Paul Johnson Shares His Passion For Evangelism
Paul Johnson was the guest speaker Sunday as he shared the vision of the Canadian National Baptist Convention (formerly Canadian Convention of Southern Baptists). The CNBC's vision, according to its website is to have "1000 Healthy, Reproducing, Cooperating Churches by the year 2020." In an empirical measure, this would translate to 100,000 baptisms,10,000 mission volunteers sent annually, and 100 international missionaries sent out by churches by the same end-date.
Johnson shared his step-ladder paradigm of sharing the Good News in a seven-step outline in which each level requires: 1. Deepening love relationship with Jesus; 2. A growing desire to help others find God and follow Jesus; 3. training and new skills; 4. more courage, confidence, and energy. Although Johnson was only able to deliver the first four steps of his model in detail, his message was clear and requires action on the individual level as well as the macro-level.
Johnson's level of involvements to fulfilling the Great Commission are as follows (source: Paul Johnson):
Level One: Pray for Others
Level Two: Live Like Jesus
Level Three: Tell Your Story
Level Four: Answer Others' Questions
Level Five: Talk About Jesus
Level Six: Be An Ambassador, begging others to repent and believe
Level Seven: Take the Good News to people groups who haven't heard
Following the Sunday worship service, Johnson also presented "Napkin Evangelism" as a way of picturing the Gospel in four primary relationships: God, others, self, and world.
Last week, Salt Jones was the guest speaker also from the CNBC (CCSB) and spoke about being obedient to God.
