VBS gives a Hola!
Winnie Law
There are 61 kids this year. 51 on field trips. The theme is a Hawaiian theme, a.k.a Outrigger Island. (The motto: Live the Truth, Know the Truth, Speak the Truth).
Outrigger Island Daycamp is 9am to 4pm (sometimes we come late from the field trip though, like yesterday we got to church at 4:30pm). The days of the fieldtrip are July 20th, 2008 to August 1st, 2008 MTWRF.
Worship is conducted by our ever so talented Patrick Fung. He takes all 61 kids and worships with them with his ever so lovely Dorothy as his helper, while the rest of the teachers go with Mrs. Ng to have prayer time and Bible Study. It's the first year we had Bible Study Time with the teachers although we have had to try to impliment it in the past.
The field trips are scheduled according to the theme this year, as well as the age group. LIke the older group go on different field trips that are suited for thier age and the younger group go to things that are more suited for thier age group.
(Younger Group: Movie [Horton hears a who], Crazy for Crafts at the Library, John Jazen Nature Centre [Stalking and Tracking Program], Millenium Place)
(Older Group: Taste of Edmonton, Legislature Grounds, John Jazen Nature Centre [Pond Exploration], Movie [Prince Caspian: Chronicles of Narnia])
(Everyone: Luau Party @ Church, Capital Ex, Hasse Lake [if the water is ok], Kinsmen Sand and Water Park, St. Albert's Spray Park)

Our Menu has been designed by our Head Chef Alice Ma. Lately the kids have been asking for seconds, thirds and even fourths. The menu reflects the Hawaiin Theme as well as a few favorites from last year. The Menu includes Hawaiin Rice, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Macaroni Soup and Ham Sandwiches. The entire kitchen staff need to cook for almost 56 kids and also 30 teachers on a daily basis. :S
Of course we want to thank all our teachers that are helping in VBS this year. Their dedication and taking time to prepare lessons and watch over the children has been a tremendous support. They don't have it easy, any of them.
Our Registration Team has been all but one person. We couldn't have the organization of our children without her. Sarah Li has been a tremendous support in making sure everyone knows what's going on and making sure everything is complete. All her work as well as the decorating staff (Nathania Ng, Johanna Ng, Grace Law, Geoff Ing, Amy Xing, James Li, Ryan Chau, Bianca Ho, Sarah Li, Joyce Chan, Hanna Ng, Hetta Chau, Grace Chau, Austen Chan, Malek Foo, Shaina Foo, Nigel and more that I can't even remember!) They made the church truly into an island paradise and the decorations were so great that they even impressed the works staff.
This year instead of doing crafts, we're doing arts. So we would also like to thank the Works for donating art material to our daycamp (clay, papers, construction paper etc.) It was a huge relief for our new highly energetic arts teacher, Johanna Ng.
As well, our drama director is new, highly gifted Anita Liao who has taken the responsibility of directing four children actors (Vivienne Li, Daniel Leung, Alex Ho and Joyce Mach), rewriting some of the corney play and editing and arranging the play into a watchable masterpiece.
And we cannot forgot our amazing VBS director, Hanna Ng. She's been everyone and doing everything making sure the teachers are physcially alright and spiritually feed and making sure the children are safe and hearing the good news.
God has blessed us with an awesome team and awesome kids. There couldn't be anything that we can't do without God!!!
