How many people does it take to change a lightbulb?
"If every household in Canada replaced just one incandescent light bulb with a CFL (compact fluorescent light) bulb, the reduction in pollution would be the equivalent of taking 66,000 cars off the road" - Project Porchlight founder Stuart Hickox.
While global warming and increasing pollution are major issues in our world today, Project Porchlight has been helping the environment by handing out one energy efficient CFL bulb to each family household across Ottawa, Rural parts of Alberta, B.C. and the major Alberta cities (Edmonton and Calgary).
In contribution to being stewards of God's creation, Melissa Duong (Leader of ECBC English Outreach Team) organized for ECBC to participate in helping Project Porchlight on Friday, October 24th to hand out light-bulbs to the surrounding Queen Mary community (extending to 111th avenue). After a quick presentation from our Project Porchlight leader, Lauren, we headed out for an hour to deliver the CFL bulbs. Upon returning, we were welcomed by pizza, beverages, cake, and funny stories.
So how many people does it take to change a lightbulb? Thanks to our team of 16 from Faith Fellowship and Hope Fellowship, we were able to hand out approximately 100 light-bulbs. ECBC's contribution lights up the earth and makes it 1,356,587 lightbulbs changed for the project. That's a big contribution to the projected 13,576,855 Canadian households from the last 2006 census. Way to go youth!
