ECBC Streams New Year Live
ECBCs 1st Live Web Broadcast
ECBCs Cantonese Congregation Lunar New Years' event entered the Year of the Tiger with a live stream of their celebration event Sunday. The impromptu live stream is the first ever for the church and reflects part of the continuous changes in the method of sharing the Gospel in the information age. Though the method of delivering the Good News may change as technology advances, the message of the Gospel remains unchanged at its core.
The festivities of the night, hosted by Sue Lim, included appearances by various families of ECBC sharing New Years blessings, a game of beach volleyball in the pews, trivia from various Hong Kong game shows, a broadcast of Hong Kong celebrities sharing their testimonies, and Pastor Dennis Milne and Ardell Milne sharing their blessings in Cantonese. Associate Pastor Felix Lim shared the story of God's sacrificed son Jesus along with illustrations with Chinese symbolism related to the tiger.
Before the night began, the church hosted a large potluck filling the entire gymnasium. It has been several years since such a large gathering of church members and friends has occured. Countless dishes, some with specially named titles lined several rows in the center of the New Years' dinner. Along with many dinner guests dressed in traditional Chinese outerwear, Pastor Dennis dressed in a Chinese jacket and a Scottish kilt as ECBC is more than just a Chinese church in culture.
The live online stream was featured on ustream and 15 viewers were recorded during the night, as live event updates were also sent via Facebook and Twitter. ECBC has been on the forefront of online media and has gone through several technology updates in the past few years. Another upcoming media outreach on April 25th is the Gospel Without Words Film Fest which aims to deliver the Gospel message in its pure essence in the simplest form - without written or spoken language. The event information for the film fest is located here.
